Responsibilities & Expectations:

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for overseeing and creating detailed drawings and specifications for steel components and related activities associated with industrial construction projects, including Autodesk Inventor knowledge and AutoCAD drawing package, structural calculations, work scope preparation, project cost estimation, field installation procedures, inspection reports, and field construction support. The position will involve working with engineers, technicians, administrative personnel, suppliers, and end customers. This is primarily an office position with frequent field travel to jobsites.

  • Design for field and shop construction from fabrication through final installation. Most important focus is on the structural detail aspect; however, expect involvement in other aspects of the design process (i.e. electrical, mechanical, etc.) under time sensitive deadlines 
  • Tasks may include steel structural system design, calculations, stress analysis, foundation design, and construction observation. Must understand multiple aspects of civil work (field equipment, shop tools, civil engineering standards, industrial work practice, etc.)
  • AutoCAD Drafting: Develop structural system drawings from Inventor 3D and/or AutoCAD; prepare layouts, and detail drawings as required by our construction department
  • Field Visits: Perform site visits on project opportunities to prepare cost estimates for customer RFQs and inspect progress of ongoing projects
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 5+ years’ experience in structural design/construction industry.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited) a plus.
  • Concrete Structural Design Experience a plus.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Practical experience and proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good customer relations skills and able to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a challenging fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take direction and act independently. Must also be able to work well with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to make quick decisions.
  • Must show a history of being reliable and dependable. Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include: bending, lifting, carrying, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment.
  • Be willing to travel and work in several different geographic locations (indoors & outdoors).
  • Driving to meet with customers may be required in this role.
  • Must be willing to submit to the background and drug screening process.
