CCSA Associate Choral Director Position 2025–2026

Job Details: Part-time contractor

Start Date: August 2025. Potential candidates will be contacted starting July 1, 2025.

Summary

The Children's Chorus of San Antonio seeks an experienced choral conductor-teacher to lead a core ensemble of beginning to intermediate treble singers in 6th–9th grades. The successful candidate will lead the ensemble in rehearsals and performances and work under the leadership of the Artistic Director.

Associate Choral Director Duties and Responsibilities

Artistic 

  • Prepare and conduct weekly rehearsals from mid-August through mid-May each academic year: Thursdays, 6:00–7:45 pm. In addition, core ensembles may hold 2–3 Saturday rehearsals per semester
  • Supervise singers and conduct music selections for the assigned ensemble during CCSA concerts, typically 3–6 scheduled concerts and community performances per season
  • Contribute to artistic programming by sharing input regarding repertoire selection; collaborate with the Artistic Director to select repertoire for the ensemble
  • Partner with Artistic Team members to prepare combined selections and lead sectional rehearsals

Administrative 

  • Communicate regularly with singers and families of the assigned ensemble
  • Contribute to concert program books, providing titles and other program information for all pieces under their direction
  • Attend artistic staff meetings as needed
  • Participate in fundraising activities

Public Relations 

  • Participate in community activities that further the name recognition of CCSA
  • Represent CCSA in media appearances when requested and based on availability
  • Participate in musical and professional organizations locally and regionally, as available
  • Collaborate with management to support marketing campaigns and publicity for CCSA
  • Assist in CCSA recruitment efforts

Miscellaneous 

  • Fulfill all duties, responsibilities, and requests to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Keep current with new choral repertoire
  • Assist with concert-related logistics as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in music or music education
  • Demonstrated the professional qualities and characteristics of a skilled and experienced conductor of middle school/youth choirs
  • Rehearsal/performance presence and communication style that promotes music-making and supports singers’ well-being (positive relationships built on mutual trust, respect, and high expectations)
  • History of working collaboratively with administrative and artistic staff; openness to the ideas of others; ability to nurture and inspire respect and creativity
  • Ability to motivate and elicit the best efforts of young singers; accessible and approachable by students and parents/guardians
  • Enthusiastic commitment to the mission and vision of the organization
  • Awareness of the organization’s role in a changing society; ability to inspire and communicate musically and verbally with multiple audiences
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Reflects a positive disposition that fosters kindness and builds trust among colleagues, the singers we serve, and their families
